Session 12: Save the eggs!!

Will- Quentin- Paladin
Josh Jose- Druid
Jayme- Blaze- Rogue
Sarah Susenna- Bard
Becker- Aiden- Ranger
Ben Royce- Sorcerer

Still in the mines of Wyrmwatch the group collects their loot, which happens to be some dragon eggs, and head for the exit. On their way to the exit an umbral hulk unborrows itself next to the bell rings it and instantly dies, as red mist leaves it’s lifeless body. As the bell rings out in the cave the group notices an intense tremor through-out the mines. Blaze is the first to notice the mines are collapsing behind them.

With their priorities set on saving the dragon eggs, the group makes their slow escape from the mines as it collapses around them. Struggling to push the eggs through tight corridors, over and around corpses, and to the nearing exit. Aiden hears something terrifyingly familiar. The sound of a purple wurm. With Aiden providing new information to everyone, the groups desire to escape provides that extra push they needed to get out alive.

As they run out of the mines the door and walls behind them collapse on themselves. The tremor seems to have stopped, but the group sees a new problem in front of them. A horde of nightbringers led by a floating sorcerer and a sorceress Lelies. A person from Quentin’s past. While Quentin is obviously oblivious to the surroundings, Aiden noticed something about the nightbringer army. Some, if not most, were his people. He to was distracted, but Blaze seeing everything in front of him noticed that they were in a bad way.

Tash began to boast at the group that they have been convinced that this was the place they needed to stop the nightbringer army. Take out the army at it’s legs by removing it’s fundings. Smart play, but all a ploy to get them here. A trap if you will. The groups ability to take down several generals of the army seemed to be a bit of a problem that needed to be answered with directly. Before Tash could finish boasting Lelies and the rest of the army spoke in cohesion exclaiming for him to shut up. They told him to leave and to meet them at the Zephyr Keep. Tash bowed apologized and left.

With Tash gone and no one left but the army and Lelies, Aiden instantly acted out in rage of seeing his people afflicted by what ever that consumed them. Shooting arrows into the crowd to hopefully create enough of a diversion to aid in the escape of the rest of the group. Unfortunately, Quentin still stunned and Blaze realizing that the arrows did nothing to cause any commotion for their escape. The army and Lelies all stared at the arrows sticking out of the shoulders and chests of the templars hit and stared back at the group.

The nightbringers spoke and told the group this was their last stand as they will not escape here. They will end their persistence here and now. As they spoke 5-6 templars lunged at the group while the rest of the army began to move close for an attack. That same moment the templars leaped something else lunged at them. Something large and from underground. A Purple wurm emerged and attacked the leaping templars instantly devouring them. As the first wurm submerged another emerged consuming more of the army. It turned into an all out war in seconds. The nightbringer army instantly set their attention on the purple wurms, while Aiden cast a spell to provide cover for the group and the eggs escape.

The group slowly ran away while the army made short work of the wurms. Lelies would hit them with lightning and essentially dematerialize them in an instant, turning them to dust and ash. Because the army was so focused on the wurms, the adventurers were able to escape and watch from what they assumed to be a safe distance. Full of rage and frustration, Lelies and the nightbringers search for the group and were unable to find them. They screamed into the air, Immense power erupted out of them causing a big red nova disintegrating anything in it’s path. When the dust settled nothing was left, not even the army. Just a giant hole in the ground where they stood.

The group saw this as an opportunity to skedaddle. They aimlessly wondered for days eastbound. Quentin and Aiden beside themselves as Blaze kept mentioning Quentin’s girl-friend, which he repeatedly defended as saying she was not his g/f. One night as the group were resting, Aiden took the opportunity to leave to go search for his people. The group lost a brave soul that day. With morale low and Quentin on the verge of losing his mind. They find themselves in front of a fort of dwarves.

Upon arrival they are instantly asked to leave or provide enough information that would make the dwarves care enough of their quest. When discussing their situation to the guard of the gate Rurik, a dwarf cleric, informed the guard that these two souls are Quentin and Blaze. Fighters of the nightbringers. With that information the guard opened the gate.

While in the fort the guard informed them about their leader, Udlak, a general of the remaining dwarf army. They set on a campaign years ago to deal with the nightbringer army, but they are all that remained and because of the inability to deal with the nightbringer menace, the leader is slightly crazed. As the group enter the chambers of Udlak he immediately exclaims that he know what is going on. Rurik informed him of the group and Quentin began to speak, when Udlak yelled for silence and kicked the group out of the room as him and Rurik spoke.

When the group returned Udlak, still annoyed, seemed willing to speak with them. They noticed that 2 of his giant hammers stuck in the wall behind them. Quentin and Blaze began to inform the leader of what they’ve experienced. While discussing the nightbringers Blaze felt a familiar tremor. As Udlak slammed his fist repeatedly against his chair a wurm erupted and attempted to consume him. Another wurm erupted behind Blaze and Quentin attack a group of dwarves that were slamming their mugs on the table.

Two wurms followed the two to pitchwall fort, whether by choice or under command no one could tell. Udlak holding the creature maw open enough to prevent it from being able to escape and burrow, exclaimed to his men to hold the other wurm at bay. Keeping them above ground, so they can attack. Quentin, Blaze, and Rurik jumped into action immediately attacking the wurm that had Udlak in it’s maw. The first wurm was dealt blow after blow, while Udlak’s rage fueled his strength from being swallowed whole by the beast.

The second wurm went on the offensive after realizing the group of dwarves were too much to escape from. With it’s stinger it dealt poisonous, devastating damage to the group, but because of Rurik’s teachings he was able to keep the group up and fighting in top top shape. Finally, the first wurm was able to throw Udlak from it’s maw at Blaze who nimbly dodge out of the way, only to watch the wurm submerge into the ground. Realizing that the creature was blind underground, but could sense tremors the group stood still as Udlak mad a mad dash to his hammers, only to be attacked again by the submerged wurm.

Again udlak was able to prevent his consumption with his raw strength, and again the group fell upon the distracted wurm. After a long grueling battle with the one wurm, they were finally able to beat it. The second wurm, still unable to escape the group of dwarves that pinned it’s body with their spears, fell to Udlak and the groups wrath almost instantly. After the fight was over and the wurms were felled, Udlak saw hope with the 2 new adventurers and provided that Rurik join them on their adventure to stop the nightbringer threat. The dwarves will retreat for now in hopes to gather a larger newer army to help later, but for now they must leave by morning just in case the wurms were just the first of many to attack pitchwall fort.

The group gaining a new ally to aid them on their struggle with the nightbringer army, rest before their new adventure begins.

End session.

Solo Session 11.5: Royce

Ben- Royce

After days of being knocked unconscious Royce wakes up to cold bitter gusts of winds. He notices that his surroundings are moving up and down. He feels around to feel feathers and a muscular being underneath him. He looks up and sees a giant orb of an eye staring at him. Startled he moves back into Larah’s unconscious body. He checks to see if she’s alive and sees a breath. Relieved, Royce put all his focus on the being that carries him.

Session 11: Doors, doors, and more doors

July 29th

Will – Paladin
Josh – Druid
Jayme – Rogue

The group still stuck in the mines of Wyrmwatch, they decide to push forward. Before moving on they notice that Susenna has vanished from where she stood. With no idea of what could’ve happened they head North in the mines. They find themselves in front of two giant doors, one North and one South. Next to the Northern most door there is a lever. With their anxiety and anticipation peaked they inspect for traps. Finding none they pull the lever. The door to the South opens to reveal 4 giant colored eggs. One blue, one copper, one black, and the last being a sand color. Blaze knows these eggs to be dragon eggs and based on their color that is the type of dragon it would be. While they discuss and investigate the eggs the door to the North opens.

Immediately the groups attention is on the opened door. They find themselves staring at a immense pile of corpses. While discussing what could’ve happened two Basilisks erupt from the pile and begin to charge at them. The group, well aware of their situation, post up for a fight. As the group finished dispatching the giant lizards, Quentin is hit with a stone gaze almost petrifying him. Praying to his God, he was able to rid the ailment and recover.

As Blaze and Aiden skinned the Basilisks, Quentin went to investigate the corpses. Seeming to find nothing, but remains of the basilisks past meals they pushed on. Heading Southbound in the mines the group encountered another door. This one almost twice the size of the last two the encountered. They decide to explore the rest of the mines in search for an exit. Unable to find the exit, the group encounter an umbral hulk and orog. They quickly dispatch the two, but before they do they notice that Aiden has gone missing.

Confused and concerned the group continues. With their heads on a swivel they find another door. Blaze inspects it and finds nothing, so he begins to lock-pick it. After opening it they find 2 chests in the back corner. Within the chests they find gold, a beacon bow, boots of striding and sprinting, flying blade sword, and a mirror. After discussion and loot splitting the group continues. Before they decide to open the giant door they head back to the room with the eggs to rest up.

While the rest of the group rested Quentin decided to take the first watch. At the 3rd hour of watch he felt the ground quake beneath him. So, much so that he began to wake the group. Blaze immediately displeased by being woken up earlier than preferred lashed out at Quentin. Not understanding Quentin’s franticness Blaze decided to let him rest and picked up on watch duty. Another 3-4 hours pass and the ground began to shake violently. Blaze woke everyone and explained what was going on. Quentin immediately understood and rose to his feet. They all agreed to wake and find an exit.

Staring at the giant door the group decides to open it. Blaze inspects it and finds no traps and begins to successfully pick the lock. As the door opened they’re met by Sgt. Garn, the man that was taken away by the giant 100 headed dragon at the town of Kasserine, and 2 giant black and white basilisks. They post up for a fight, but before any attack all three speak as if they were one being. In their disturbing synchronisation the 3 tell the group that they’ve been watching them since Kasserine when they dispatched Frida with ease. And that they’ve been nothing but a thorn in their side and will be destroyed here and now. As they finish Garn leaps into the group and begins to cleave into them wildly.

Jose left to deal with the 2 basilisk since Garn separated him from the group, shape-shifted into snakes to deal as much damage while mitigating the stone gaze of the beasts. Quentin unable to reach the 2 basilisk decides to cast a moonbeam on one of them, while they are funnelled into a tight corridor maximizing its effects. Blaze and Quentin were able to take minimum damage from the crazed Garn due to their combined teamwork.

After each attack the 3 synchronized beings kept proclaiming the groups demise, until the last of them were left on the ground dead. As the group recollected themselves they noticed that the armor and size of each enemy was evaporating in a dark mist. Garn was left practically naked and the 2 basilisks color and size reverted back to their original colors.

After dispatching the 3 inhumane beasts the group found a room full of more bodies. The difference was the bodies were new and their clothes resembled the clothes of the townsfolk from Norinoth. A chest gleamed in the back part of the room, within it was a epost, gold, and gems. The group grabbed the loot and ran out finally finding the exit. But before they leave the group decides to go back for their prized possessions, the dragon eggs. End.

The group, with minimum manpower, struggle to escape the town before the Ancient Dragon and its rider, Vern the Blood Knight, begin their attack. While trying to escape, the town is enveloped in a blue shield that is summoned by the crazy Apothecarian. Stuck inside and no where to go the two soldiers, Narder and Ealdhelme, tell the group that the Weapon-smith and Armor-smith seek their audeince before the battle begins. After receiving their items from the weapon-smith the group finds themselves trying to sneak by 2 cave trolls and a Iron Ogre, that managed to infiltrate the city before the shield was constructed.

Managing to sneak by the 3 beasts, the group spoke with the armor-smith, who gave them the rest of their items they were looking for and provided the items for free in replace of keeping the armor-smith safe from danger. With that agreement the group begins to assault a lonely armored cave troll, only to draw the attention of the other 2 beasts. The cave trolls managed to surround Quentin, while the Iron Ogre flanked the back lines.

The Iron ogres immense size made it very difficult for Susenna to escape. Providing enough of a distraction for the rest of the group to deal with the cave trolls. Susenna was able to fend off the iron ogre by running in small hard to reach areas. Unfortunately, the cave trolls regeneration was too much for the rest of the group, so Aiden was cast a spell that hid the group from the dumb beasts. With Blaze providing the necessary poison to deal with the trolls regeneration, Quentin and Aiden helped in dispatching the 2 trolls, while Susenna created anotheer distraction for the big Iron Ogre.

Once, the trolls were dead the group focused on the ogre only to find Susenna was chased down, cornered, and knocked unconscious. With its immense attacks the iron ogre was able to deal some pretty hefty damage before Blaze, Quentin, and Aiden took it down.

When they re-grouped and met up with Narder and Ealdhelme by the northern gate, the group was ambushed by 4 umber hulks, which burst from ground. Before the umber hulks could do anything Narder and Ealdhelme flashed into action cleaving the 4 in mere seconds.

Stunned and in awe, the group realized their assistance wasn’t needed in defending the town. But Narder, Ealdhelme, and the Apothecarian explained to them that they were lieutenants of the Sentinels and the Apothecarian was in fact one of the top Magus of their group. With the 3 staing at Norinoth, they’ve been able to beat back the constant onslaught of the Nightbringers armies. Unfortunately, the Nightbringers have begun to increase their size and attacks.

With the three stuck defending the town they ask the group to go to the caves to the North during the next attack to put a stop to this endless assault.

The group find themselves loaded to the gills with loot. So, instead of marching onward to unknown threats, they decided to make a quick stop at the town of Norinath, where they meet two guards by the names of Narder and Ealdhelme. Narder more of a rustic deeper toned man, while Ealdhelme the complete opposite. While they were to guard the group they also acted as their guides within the town itself. Bringing them to all the hotspots that they requested, even escorting Aiden to his little camping spot just on the outskirts of town. Diligent and honest the two guards were, just trying to make their town a better place to live. On constant siege from the Nightbringers from the North the guards of this town try to keep the townsfolk out of harms way while trying to keep daily life energetic and fun. By building a tall wall around the town it helps the townsfolks feel safer and at ease, as the soldiers carried the brunt of the truth of the situation on their shoulders. This town wouldn’t last long.

With forced smiles and heavy drinking in the evening the soldiers were convinced that the town wouldn’t last the next attack. So, when a group of strangers walked up they couldn’t allow more lives to be sacrificed to these Nightbringers. They tried to push them away, but the group insisted. Trying not to be rude they allowed the guests in, but on one condition. They must be guarded by the two strongest guards at all time. That’s where Narder and Ealdhelme come in. They don’t look like much, but they’ve survived countless attacks from the Nightbringers. The only reason they’re not commanding the towns guards it because they’ve both refused it. Narder says it’s not his style, while Ealdhelme thinks he’s suited for a better position. While guarding the new guests of the town the two guards begin to notice the strength of the group, as they hand over dragon hide and bones to merchants to make something out of them. The amount of Ioun stones they have attuned and carry shows the strength of the group.

Both guards didn’t want to push any inconveniences on anyone, but if they could convince the group to stay a little longer, maybe, just maybe, they’d be able to save the town. The following morning their wish came true. Over the horizon a winged beast barreled toward the town. The attack was coming alright, but from the looks of the attack it looked like they wanted to end things. Instead of sending the normal goblins and wyrmlings to siege the town the Nightbringers had sent one of their generals to lead the assault. Based on the size of the dragon, and the red aura flowing off the back, it wasn’t just any General, but Vern, the Blood Knight. His deadly gaze set on the town of Norinoth. Will the adventurers be able to defend the town from his deadly grasp? Next time on Dragonball Z….

Session 7: The Bait and Wait

They were baited, then it waited……. And by ‘it’ I mean the House Hunter of course. A giant Mimic type creature that lures unsuspecting travellers to their doom, by convincing them it’s a house. While flying around the suspicious building Quentin convinces Aiden that the best approach would be to rappel into the windows from Ketrel at high speeds. Obviously, seeing nothing wrong with that plan Aiden agreed as the rest of the adventurers tried to talk them out of it. Unwilling to back down Quentin jumped and Aiden soon followed. Even though both of them are light on their feet, that didn’t matter when travelling at 30-40 mphs and hitting a window. They both fell valiantly.

After collecting themselves, the group found the entrance. Quentin, Aiden, and Blaze all went inside. Larah stayed outside as the suspicious building seemed ‘off’ to her. While inside the building, the adventurers started to have a feeling that something was up, as they were slowly being digested. What that ‘something’ was they didn’t know, but it was up and they didn’t like it. They finally realised what that ‘up’ finally was. They decided to split up and as they entered separate rooms the doors to their rooms were immediately closed behind them, then the recently shut doors turned into a wall. Without a single notice the House Hunter lunged out with all it’s tentacles. It didn’t show it’s maw until it felt the prey trapped by its tentacles.

Unfortunately, for the House Hunter the adventurers were too strong and slippery to be caught by a simple trap like this. Aiden, shooting arrow after arrow, defeated every tentacle the monster could throw at him. Pinning tentacle after tentacle with his perfect aiming dealing massive damage to both the tentacles and the giant creatuer itself. In the other room Blaze took a more evasive means of surviving the barrage of attacks. He dived, dodged, dipped, and dodged out of most of the grapples the monster could try. Blaze was only grappled once and easily escaped it’s clutches by weaselling his way out of the monsters grip. Quentin, on the other hand, took a head on approach by attacking the tentacles with everything he had. Sure, he was grappled a few times but he overpowered the tentacles as if they were recently cooked noddles trying to hold him down, instead of a giant monster looking for a snack.

Larah, not falling for the houses tricks, stayed outside trying to cleanse the building over and over again. Against all odds and ignoring the many failed attempts to cleanse the building she kept at it. Finally, she realised that maybe the building wasn’t a building, but a creature. With that thought she decided to break down the wall with her spectral mace. After the first smash the buildings tentacles lunged at her. She stepped away and waited for the tentacle to recede. Once the tentacle disappeared she continued to tear down the wall. Confused at why the wall was bleeding and not falling down, she kept hammering away as if her life depended on it. Not realising that in the process she was damaging the giant creature. Ketrel watched her. The whole time. Cleaning his plumes and staring at the wall Larah was demolishing. With a cocked head Ketrel just watched confused.

Finally, after the beast was slain. As it fellover dead the back of it tore open revealing a method of escape for the trapped adventurers. Slowly it began to disintegrate, Blaze on his way out grabbed everything that looked shiny. Right before the beast was felled it delivered a massive blow to Quentin knocking him out. As the back opened Larah was able to find Quentin lying on the ground. She restored him and helped him out of the crumbling beast. With their unknowing teamwork the adventurers were able to take down one of the most fiercest beasts in the lands, the mighty House Hunter.

After their slow escape from the city of Vaer Taeldas, our adventurers, bored and a vague idea of where to go, find themselves being chased by none other than a Dragon. After close inspection, Larah was able spot a rider on the back of the Dragon. Literally trapped and no where to go they posture up for a fight. Susesy decides to try and barrel roll the ship but in the process snaps the steering mechanism completely off.

With no ability to steer and no way of descending at a speed that is useful, the adventurers prepare for the worst. Within minutes the fight starts. Quentin throwing javelin after javelin at the progressing Dragon ends up hitting his mark. The Dragon, barely noticing the hit, continues to barrel forward. With one pass-by the dragon snaps the lines of the port side of thee ship. The ship, only connected at the starboard side now, hangs on by only a handful of ropes. Everyone but Quentin is able to catch themselves from falling.

The adventurers instantly step into action in trying to save Quentin. Unfortunately, by the time the adventurers notice what’s going on to help it’s already too late. Quentin in free fall starts to pray to his god. With no time to spare Blaze starts to attack the dragon and it’s rider. The rider nocks an arrow, fires, and skims the dangling Susesy, but with his powerful man-child hands he desperately holds on. The arrow, continuing it’s path, hits the bottom-side of the balloon and creates a gash where air begins to leak. The ship starts to lose altitude.

While the ship falls Larah, still dangling on the end of a rope and desperately trying to find a way to save Quentin, has no choice but to give up and jump to the ship. She jumps to the starboard side of the ship, which is still connected to the balloon. With Quentin practically dead, the team barely able to stand (never-mind fight), and with the Dragon-rider and his Dragon turning, for what seems to be a finishing blow. To say the situation seemed hopeless was an understatement.

While hopelessness set in, a shadow of hope suddenly appeared. The sun became eclipsed by a giant creature. The shadow darted down between the Dragon and the zeppelin at blurring speeds. With his man-child hands Susesy was still able to hold on as a gust of wind blew past from the blur. With immense speed the blurred shadow caught Quentin in it’s giant talons. It was a Roc! Not only a Roc but a Roc and a rider. It was Aiden! Literally out of no where, Aiden has rejoined the adventurers.

Perplexed and excited, the team regained their confidence in dealing with the Dragon menace now. As Ketrel, what the Roc was known by, and Aiden placed Quentin on top of the zeppelin, Quentin bound the rider with an ensnaring spell so he couldn’t use his weapons. Once Quentin was placed on the zeppelin the Dragon struck with a breath attack, knocking Susesy and Blaze from the zeppelin. Aiden jumped to the dragon and commanded Ketrel to catch the two falling teammates. Larah and Quentin continued to hold off the dragon and it’s rider.

Aiden, now on the Dragon, steals it’s riders weapon and begins to attack them both. The Dragon tries to barrel roll him off but is unsuccessful. Ketrel returns with the both Susesy and Blaze in his talons. Susesy yells some extremities to the rider and buffs Blaze, then grabs onto the ship as Blaze jumps on the back of the Dragon with Aiden. Blaze adds some more wounds to the Dragon in hopes of felling the beast, but is unsuccessful. The rider commands something to the Dragon and the Dragon attacks the Roc. The Dragon tries to bite Ketrel but ends up biting it’s own tongue off. Ketrel, using his large beak attacks the Dragon in return and ends up doing little damage due to it’s scales.

The battle ensues and blood is seen dripping from the Dragon and it’s rider. The rider yells out one last command as Aiden stabs the stolen sword into the back of the riders neck and pinning him to the back of the Dragons. The Dragon turns to the zeppelin and launches a lightning breath that knocks Susesy out. He falls unconscious. Larah tries to grab him and misses but quickly heals him. Awake and clearly falling Susesy is instantly terrified and screaming. Quentin commands Ketrel to fly and grab the “small one”. Ketrel darts down and lets Susesy fall onto his back. Quentin takes time to tend to Royce who has been knocked completely unconscious as the battle began.

Aiden and Blaze make small work of the Dragon-rider. Ketrel flying back up, with Susesy on his back, and finishes off the Dragon by tearing it’s head clean off it’s shoulders. The battle is over and the adventurers have won. Ketrel grabs a hold of the battered zeppelin and guides it safely down to the ground. Once on the ground Blaze and Susesy look for the dragon corpse for spoils and meat, while the rest tend to the Roc and camp. At the base of a mountain with a vague idea where they are the team is left to fix their battered ship and tend to their wounds before continuing their adventure.

End Session.

After defeating the 2-3 templar knights, that stood in their path, the group was able to find none other then Susesy, who was guided by his God to find this zeppelin and fix it. After reuniting with their small companion the group decided help get the zeppelin up and running to hopefully escape the clutches of Shar’s templars. After a few hours of trying to inflate the balloon with a torch in the groins of Quentin and holding the balloon up from being torched, Royce was able to find a contraption that Susesy knew to be the fan to inflate the balloon.

While most of the group was getting the zeppelin all up and running Blaze took it upon himself to scout around to check for anymore problems. Within moments of strolling down the street he noticed a couple of templars who immediately ask Blaze what he’s doing. Seeing how it’s a quarantine citizens should be in their homes to avoid any issues.
